  • An employers guide to floor safety

People tend not to notice their usual workspace as much as a visitor would so take a look at this checklist of things to consider to keep your floors safe.

    1

    Floor

    condition

    • How safe is the actual floor surface?
    • Is it level and undamaged?
    • Is the floor kept clear of trip hazards?
    • Does it look smart and presentable?
    2

    Environmental factors

    • Is there any source of water or other liquids around?  This can include Water Coolers, Drinks being carried or moisture coming in on peoples feet.
    • A wet floor is far more likely to have someone slip on it especially if it is a tiled or other hard, smooth surface
    3

    Actions you can take

    • Provide a mat at all entrances from the outside.
    • Ideally, it should be at least 115cm deep as that typically takes two steps to cross meaning that both feet step on the mat.
    • Usually a single door needs a mat 85cm wide, for a double door it is usually 180cm wide.
    • A mat by kitchen areas, water coolers and bathrooms is also a great idea.
    • Ensure that everyone knows not to leave bags or other trip hazards lying around.
    4

    Mat facts

    • A good quality mat removes 85 - 95% of the moisture and dirt from someones feet.
    • In Winter, typically, 1000 visitors will track 2kg of dirt and moisture into your building
    • Your new mat can hold up to 1kg of dirt and moisture per sqM
    • Mats with Nitrile rubber backing are more resilient than  latex or PVC backed ones
    • A Twist Nylon pile mat is far more effective than a loop pile one.
  • Using Mats in Shops

90% of customers choose to shop in a location because of how it looks and feels.

New entrance mat for historic Edinburgh shop

    The perfect welcome

Making your customer feel at ease as they arrive

This iconic store is in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town.

As Scottish weather can be occasionally unforgiving, they needed to stop customers bringing rain, slush and grit into the store without compromising the look of their historic store.

We helped to design and print an entrance mat for their shop that was in keeping with their traditions.

A printed mat with your logo on it welcomes your customer and assures them that they are in the right place

Logo mat for Cafe / store in Glasgow

    Keeping clean

Making it easier to keep floors clean

Hygiene and Aesthetics were at the top of the list when deciding what mat to supply for Kimbles flagship store in Glasgow.

This beautiful coffee shop and chocolatier is a favourite with Glasgow's City Centre shoppers and the family owners have a clear eye for what is right from a design point of view.

Our designers were able to take the Kimbles logo and propose two printed mats with very high dust collection properties.

These particular mats can remove over 90% of the dirt and moisture from a visitors feet making it easier to keep your floor cleaner, safer and reduce wear on the floor surface.

  • Make an impact in your

    Experiential Marketing

Show the world your incredible products and team with our HD printed mats.

    Nice or Necessity?

A mat that does more than reinforce your brand message

We supply many leading brands with the mats that they need for their Experiential Marketing.

When a leading international experiential marketing agency came to us with a requirement to cover marked parking spaces in a supermarket to define their promotional space, our HD printing provided the solution that the team needed.

    They had two major concerns:

    - The mats HAD to be there on time otherwise, local teams would not be able to set up.

    - The print quality had to meet the demanding requirements of the brand team at the client.

Our large 2M x 3M mats were just the job and the events were a huge success.

We understand the importance of getting perfect reproduction and getting the mats delivered to the right place on time. (Our owner worked for many years in the marketing department of a global brand.)

In this case, the project was turned around in just 10 days and, as you can see from the pictures, everyone was happy and energised.

You can trust that we will understand and deliver on the special requirements of Marketing and exhibition mat projects.

  • Quality where it counts

Restaurants have to be kept clean and welcoming so high quality mats are a necessity.

    Supplying the best

Keeping your restaurant floor clean is tough! You are a high traffic environment and people bring dirt with them.

When one of the UK's top restaurants at Chardon D'or wanted to replace some old coir mats, they came to us for a better solution.

Our designers worked with Brian Maule and his team to come up with a practical and hardwearing solution that could be cleaned in-house.

Our Restaurant mats are tried and tested in some of the UK's busiest restaurants and are designed to keep working and looking great.

    Keeping staff and customers safe

A wet floor is a slippery floor

Following a refit, the owners of Toast Cafe (a local favourite) came to us to protect the finish on their new wooden floor.

We advised on keeping dirt and moisture out of the cafe completely with a printed barrier mat and additional mats for wet and challenging days.

Complete with the Toast logo, the new mats blended perfectly with the refit.

As compensation claims continue to increase year on year for people who slip and fall in business premises. Placing a clearly visible mat at your entrance not only removes water from visitors feet but is a clear sign that you take safety seriously.

  • Welcome to our office

Keep it clean and looking great.

    Safety first

Keeping floors drier is keeping floors safer

The team at Stafffinders were clear in what they needed.

As one of Scotlands leading recruitment companies, they have a lot of visitors and they wanted to keep dirt out while providing a welcome that showed clients that they were in the right place.

Our team worked with them locally to find the perfect size and positioning of mat for their offices.

Over 30% of workplace accidents are due to slips and falls, reducing moisture on a floor dramatically reduces the chances of slipping.

    A warm welcome

    Solving a slippery problem

The owners of 8 John Street in Glasgow had a problem.

Their contemporary dark tiled floor got Very Very slippy whenever it rained (or snowed) (or Hailed) in Glasgow.

They didn't want to distract from the designers original concept for the entrance to this building and so, out team worked with them to find the perfect classic design to compliment their building.

Providing a printed mat gives visitors assurance and make the place look extremely professional.

  • Commercial Mats

...and some more interesting facts about them

  • Do you work in other peoples premises?

We can help you demonstrate how you care for their property.

KH Cleaning Services are a commercial and domestic cleaning business in the West of Scotland. They wanted to demonstrate to their clients how they protect their floors when entering premises or using chemicals for example when cleaning ovens.

We were able to provide a simple solution where each of the team carries a small Nitrile rubber backed printed mat to every job to place where they are working.
